Today’s article is a special one because it’s about a very special boy. Apex Legends is not a new game anymore, it came out 3 years ago, and whenever the pre-season or season 1 gets brought up, everyone gets super nostalgic. With the same fondness, we remember the first players who achieved undying fame in the game and its community. Ladies and gentlemen, today, we’re covering Coby Meadows, aka Dizzy!

Hello, my name is Volcan, aka VolcanFPS, and I release a series of articles where together with readers, we take a deep dive into the stories of the most noteworthy individuals that made a name for themselves by playing Apex Legends. In this regard, Dizzy has to be the most prominent example of a boy who left a huge legacy in the competitive history of Apex Legends.

We’ve all heard the stories of how battle royale games turn talented gamers into superstars. Think Ninja, Tfue, and DrLupo, just to name a few. For Dizzy, it all started with that first Twitch Rivals event in 2019. The game had just been released. Therefore, everyone was thrilled to watch its first tournament. Twitch Rivals is the kind of tournament that puts teams of renowned streamers against each other. So, unsurprisingly, the team that Ninja was in won. What was completely unexpected about it was that both Ninja and King Richard got carried by a third no-name teammate. That last random teammate the two most influential streamers got paired with was Dizzy…

Who is Coby “Dizzy” Meadows?

Coby was born in Florida on May 19th, 2000. Prior to that faithful Twitch Rivals tournament, Coby was trying to get into the big leagues of CS: GO for a year. He’d get invites to multiple teams, but nothing major came his way. Still, his talents in FPS games wouldn’t go unnoticed. Even Shroud would make a shout-out to Dizzy for being the most cracked young man he’d play with. By 2017, Dizzy would start streaming on Twitch games like CS: GO and Fortnite. Then, on February 4th, Apex Legends came out and was immediately titled as the main challenger to Fortnite. Of course, lots of streamers hope on the hype train, and Dizzy was there too from day one. However, unlike the rest of the celebrities, Dizzy was actually unbelievably good at the game.

Note that then he was only 18 years old! Because Coby had proven himself to be a real menace in the game, only a week since Apex Legends’ release, Dizzy received an invitation to join the NRG roster as one of the game’s very first professional players. How did he get noticed so quickly? Probably because he managed to set a world record for most frags in one match, 33. A feat like that doesn’t go unnoticed.

That’s how Coby got himself a spot in Ninja’s team along with King Richard in the Twitch rivals tournament, which took place in September 2019. By the time his team won the game, both Ninja and Richard were dead, yet Dizzy carried out the rest of the match like a god! By the end of the tournament, his team got over 200 kills across all matches. Dizzy even had to hunt down some of his kills as, by the end of the tournament, his peers would simply turn to run once they saw him. That’s how incredibly Coby was at the game. So, in the end, even though the competition was fierce, Dizzy’s team won the championship by having 1 more than the runner-up.

Later on, people would say about Dizzy that he is the fastest player on the planet. Shroud called Dizzy a “legend, a true gamer, and a natural talent. Coby then would continue his dominance at the following tournament called Code Red, where he ended up with more kills than the entire enemy team. This turned him into a living legend. That’s how Coby Meadows went from a CS: GO player seeking fame to a sensation and the very first legend in Apex Legends. Also, if you read my article about NiceWigg, then you know that Dizzy basically made NiceWigg famous by playing with him and hosting his stream.

However, Coby Meadows, aka Dizzy, is no longer interested in Apex Legends. In fact, he quit the PRO career in the same year his name became immortal. In December 2019, Dizzy announced that he’d be stepping down from the competitive Apex Legends scene and focusing more on streaming other games. Naturally, everyone wants to know what happened. The only reason Dizzy had to quit the game was that he stopped enjoying it. That’s it. I guess the brightest stars shine for only a short period of time.
